Artist's Statement I want to show you that I treat the image as something fragile, transportable, that can be assembled and reassembled, surviving in the form of layers of information, becoming part of everything else we see, getting connected to other pictures and perceptions, even things. For a long time I had the idea of creating a body of work that could continue, or that would have no rational boundary or ending, allowing the freedom for elements to find one another. The idea was to bring new pictures to connect to the previous ones or to start with a new image that initially would not seem to stand in a visible relation to another. In this process I find a way to free images from the moment they are capturing by letting them rest, allowing them to become part of an environment that adapts, grows, can be used. To make and re-make an image, especially as something that falls apart and reassembles, seems to me so much more necessary than ever before – not in the sense of preserving, but in the sense of making the world real, remaking it for the Now. I need to allow myself to be in exchange with an image, to lead you inside it in another way, to dislocate it from geography, to relocate it closer to us. I show you an anti-illusionistic tableau, where there is no ”window to the world” but rather a stool holding up an image of one of the worlds, of some nature – an image held up, as if there needed to be an initiative for it to stay put: without it, the picture falls. I wonder if it is a form of uncontrollable relation between things. I want to discover it by looking together. I began to think of pollen, one of nature’s codes of information, in relation to pixels or ink and paint drops - and of our necessity to navigate and communicate among codes, visible and invisible ones. Various registers crossing over, colliding. I want to show you where they start and stop, and I began to love the idea of re-pollenising. There is no specific centre or occasion depicted in the images, nor do I know when the original photograph was taken. Information changes information, images change images, context shapes meaning, knowledge reorganises arbitrary data, changes our perception. Nothing is really neutral. I want you to be able to read the information of our slowness, of the temperature of our bodies, of distances between buildings, ideas of buildings and people and nature. I need the moment of reflection. It is us who link details together: things that resurface and those that need to be obscured. History and the histories of the images, I walk you through here, appear in staged portraits of politicians, architects and royals distributed in the context of launching new housing projects in the UK since the 1950s. The nature of visualising, depicting and recording exists through information produced by various interests and activities, often in competition with one another. Journalistic images, pre-election visits and meetings with residents, records of demolition and reconstruction of new architecture, low resolution files of interiors, community projects, gardening, environmental and cultural groups have created a visibility and invisibility of ourselves, of one culture that obscures another.
